First Love & Heartbreak

I wasn’t sure what falling in love was

Until I met you

I remember when

I’d tell my friends, then

They’d laugh, and say “it’s love”

Although, I learned

Love doesn’t always

Last forever

My first heartbreak

At 25.

Nothing felt like this

Completely torn apart inside

And all the hours that I cried

You told me I’m amazing, but didn’t see a future

And that you knew

You’d never feel

The way about me

I felt about you

I’ve never been so lost

You always talked about our future

All the things we’d do

Everything we’d see

Even the day before

We were picking out new house decor

Then

A sudden change in pace

A complete 180 - why?

Now, I’m questioning

Did you ever mean the things you said?

All the plans you made -

All the ways you said you cared -

All the ways you made me feel

I wonder now if any part was true

Despite

The pain

And heartache

I wouldn’t change it -

Because - without this heartbreak

I wouldn’t know

What it felt like

To fall in love…… for the first time
